He’s one of Britain’s more well-known and well-liked leaders. Don’t know much about him? Look no further! Here are 10 fun facts about the famous Prime Minister:

  1. He won the Nobel Peace Prize in Literature in 1953
  2. His mom was an American-born British socialite
  3. He was Prime Minister from 1940-1945 and again from 1951-1955
  4. Churchill & his party were voted out of office in 1945
  5. He disliked Gandhi because he disliked the idea of India gaining independence from Britain & British imperialism/colonialism
  6. A risky escape from a prisoner-of-war camp during World War I made him a British national hero
  7. He passed away at the age of 90 in 1965 after suffering health problems due to a stroke
  8. Churchill followed economically liberal & imperialist ideologies
  9. He’s one of the more beloved and well-known public figures of the 20th century, mainly for his role in defending Britain & Europe’s democracies from fascism during WW2
  10. Conversely, he’s also disliked because of his support of imperialism and several other supposedly more controversial views
