23 Things I Learned In 23 Years

Last year, I published a post titled 22 Things I Learned In 22 Years, and I figured that I should keep up with the trend this year. With yesterday being my 23rd birthday, today’s as good a day as any to publish a second post in this series. Well, without further ado, here are 23 Things I’ve Learned In 23 Years:

  1. Change is okay & necessary, don’t be afraid of it
  2. People won’t respect you until you respect yourself
  3. Respect is necessary in any situation with any person, regardless of how much you agree or disagree with someone
  4. Some friendships need to be left in the past if someone can’t accept the fact that you’ve changed
  5. Traveling & experiencing new things is worth it, as long as you budget properly & go with the right people
  6. Eating healthy & exercising is worth it & pays off in the long run
  7. Creating a budget for yourself is necessary
  8. Comedy & humor help during tough times
  9. Quality over quantity – in any aspect of life, whether it be friends, work, travel, school, and/or material things
  10. Communication & trust is key & is absolutely necessary for healthy relationships
  11. It’s okay to take time out for yourself and have some alone time for when things are difficult
  12. Getting rid of toxic people will hurt but it’ll be better for you in the long run (the best way to think of it is like ripping off a bandaid; it’s going to hurt initially & for a little while afterwards, but it allows your wounds to heal)
  13. Psychological & physical wounds can sometimes heal and leave scars; even small things that might be surprising can reopen the wounds & prevent them from healing quickly
  14. Just because you’re having a rough day or week, you don’t have a free pass for being mean or cruel to other people
  15. Grief and dealing with the loss of a loved one is terrible to deal with, but you’re not alone
  16. You won’t always be the victim of difficult situations or situations that aren’t going the way that you want them to, and that’s okay
  17. Do your best to focus on the good experiences in life
  18. MLMs/Direct Sales companies (like ItWorks!, LulaRoe, Younique, Herbalife, YoungLiving, etc.) are built like pyramid schemes & will most likely end up costing you money
  19. Create a good routine & stick to it
  20. People will judge you, no matter what you do
  21. Being open-minded & accepting goes further than being judgmental & mean
  22. It’s okay to do things on your own (as long as you’re safe), such as having dinner, going to museums, and traveling
  23. Live in the moment & live without regrets
